Squash Tangerine Soup
Just as the days get longer, we long for refreshing drinks from time to time…and here’s a soup that calls for a taste of refreshing citrus. Its a combination of almost everything in yellow…just like taking a bite of the sun!

Noodle Enlightenment: Japchae

How do you like your noodles? For Spaghetti, we like it Al dente, but this Asian dish poses a different adventure to the mouth. Marked by its rubbery texture, springy and snappy to the mouth, These Japchae noodles (called Dangmyeon) are unique and extraordinary.

Strength of the Will

Mar 08 2009

I recall this inspiring movie I’ve watched a few years ago, GATTACA. It reminds me of how we brace this world, which converge our utopian ideals and dystopian realisms in life. The aspirations we have are being overwhelmed by struggles which we have to overcome as we journey through chances, circumstances in life….good or bad, which may build or dismantle our hopes.

The movie presents the aspirations of an underdog. The lead character, driven by his dreams tries to overcome the almost impossible predicament he is in, it shows us how sometimes we underestimate the human spirit, how powerful the strength of a yearning heart as it struggles, how it can find ways to overcome against a society and system. The sacrifices we are willing to undergo to the extent, the differences between what one can achieve to what one can hope to achieve, the power of a love as it supports and accepts through these circumstances.

Here we see a lead character, borne into a world which discriminates against genetics. He is instantly classified by society right upon birth as an “invalid”, being ultimately judged as genetically inferior in health, intelligence, and given only the type of low jobs and no opportunity for his future, nor chance to prove himself to society. Through his desire to succeed, his perseverance, he never lost hope, nor did he believe others’ judgment. He set out his own goals and showed that though hope is slim, we can accomplish almost anything, as long as we set our minds and hearts, doing what we can.

Sweet n’ Spicy Kung Pao Tofu Triangles

Last week, I had chanced upon a supermarket along Ongpin and I brought home these so called tofu strips (豆腐皮).
I used to remember these were one of my favorite foods back when I was in China. I loved its crispy bite when its simply deep fried, dipped with ketchup.

Below is my cooked version of the tofu strips (豆腐皮) embellished with sesame seeds.
